A Tale of Two Chilis Restaurants

WHAT NOT TO EAT AT CHILI'S: BACON RANCH QUESADILLA (Chicken or steak, it doen't matter. Each has enough calories for an entire day and enough Points Plus for two days.)

MOST OUTSTANDING FEATURE: In Ruston, a homey atmosphere and well-coordinated service. Once I had to wait 45 minutes for a meal in Ruston. The Manager halfed my bill. In Garland, the pleasantness of the waiter. The meal, however, was served in such a scattered manner that we didn't enjoy eating it.

SPECIALS: These vary. Lately Chili's has been using coupons sent in emails.

MOST OUTSTANDING FEATURE:Interesting atmosphere--the renovated warehouse overlooking the Ouachita River

Ruston's Two Taco Bells

WHEN WE VISITED THE RESTAURANTS: 2013

PRICE RANGE: Low to moderate

FAVORITE FOOD: FIESTA TACO SALAD-STEAK A crispy tortilla bowl filled with marinated premium thick cut steak, and loaded with chunky beans, real cheddar cheese, premium Latin rice, crisp shredded lettuce, diced ripe tomatoes, red tortilla strips, reduced-fat sour cream and served with Cantina salsa on the side.

This delicious salad has 750 calories, which is not terrible, BUT it has 1500 mg sodium, 3/4 of the recommended day's supply.

OTHER GREAT FOODS: All the tacos.

FOOD WE LIKED LEAST: We love all of it. We could eat here twice a day seven days a week.

MOST OUTSTANDING FEATURE: The fellow diners. There's usually some friend in there. If not, there are interesting people to watch.

SPECIALS: Read the signs out front.

APPEARANCE: Not always very clean. It's a high-traffic place.

SERVICE: Good. Workers are courteous.

UNIQUE FEATURES: Taco Bell Clothing.
