ONE OF THE DATES WE VISITED THE RESTAURANT: 9-24-05
PRICE RANGE: Low--excellent value
FAVORITE FOOD: The tasty and tender biscuits are especially good with the white gravy loaded with just the right amount of black pepper.
OTHER GREAT FOODS: The Western omlette is filled with really good sugar-cured ham.
The Spanish omlette contains generous chunks of patty sausage and slices of jalapenos cooked inside and is accompanied by well-seasoned salsa. Breakfast is served all day.
MOST OUTSTANDING FEATURE: Biscuit Hill serves delicious American fare done well.
SPECIALS: Vary—call for current ones
APPEARANCE: Worn but clean. The restrooms were clean, had hot water, and were well-stocked.
SERVICE: The manager and employees are eager to please. The cook came to our table and asked us whether we would like grits. Being from the Deep South, how could we turn down such an offer? It made us feel right at home. She cooked us two big bowls full, and we had to eat all the grits.
I was amused when a server asked us if we wanted milk for our grits. Of course, we wanted real butter instead. Biscuit Hill serves real butter. I suppose the restaurant is far enough south to know how to cook perfect grits but not far enough south to know what to eat on them. Anyway, the grits were cooked to perfection. With butter, salt, and black pepper, they were delightful.
