Tia Maria's, Ruston, LA

RESTAURANT: Tia Maria’s

USP: A Beautiful Downtown Restaurant

LOCATION: 102 North Monroe Street, Ruston, LA 71270

ONE OF THE DATES WE VISITED THE RESTAURANT: 1/23/05

PRICE RANGE: Moderate. Sunday lunch entrees are about $8.00.

FAVORITE FOOD: The crawfish enchiladas, stuffed with a generous serving of well-seasoned crawfish tails and covered with a cheese-crawfish sauce, were a tasteful mingling of south Louisiana and Tex-Mex flavors.

OTHER GREAT FOODS: The complimentary salsa served before the meal arrived was a convenient blend of flavors with a slight amount of heat easily cooled by the fresh-tasting iced tea. The cheese chili relleno was delicious.

On a previous occasion we ordered yummy appetizer plates, which were filling enough to be eaten as meals.

FOOD WE LIKED LEAST: The rice was dry and bland, but topping it with salsa solved the problem. We cleaned our plates!

MOST OUTSTANDING FEATURE: Prompt, hassle-free service

SPECIALS: There is a weekday lunch menu.

APPEARANCE: Clean. The restrooms were clean.

SERVICE: Excellent with attention to details

UNIQUE FEATURES: Longtime Ruston residents who sit in Tia Maria’s appreciate the marvelous change that has transformed E. Lee Young’s Auto Parts into a string of trendy boutiques. At the front of the old auto parts store Tia Maria’s is perched in a spacious room. Instead of trying to cover the brick wall, the restaurant has placed clever wall hangings, including hats and colorful blankets.

COMMENTS: The menu gives adequate information about the quantity and quality of food items.

It has delicious Tex-Mex type food with a bayou blend.
Servings were generous, there was enough fresh lemon for the iced tea, and the chips were fresh. The waitress cheerfully supplied a side of jalapeños, which we consider essential, without adding an extra charge.
